Candy

by MikeGene

It's that time of the year again. No, not Spring. Not Easter. Not bunnies. It's candy sale time! I took my little girls door-to-door today so the oldest one could sell her school candy. And boy, are they good. Earlier, the oldest had her younger sister practicing what to say when people answered the door. They had that cuteness thing going for them big time.

We hit about 50 houses, but these days, most people aren't home or don't answer their doors. I'd guess about 20 answered and of those 20, the girls made 18 sales. As for the two misfires, one guy just didn't want any. But the other house has become a memory.

The girls knock and an elderly man answered the door. My oldest is holding her box of candy and the youngest begins her sales pitch. The man quickly shuffles away while leaving the front door open and you can her him saying loudly, "Candy, candy, candy." The girls stand there for about a minute. No one comes. Then another. I'm just about to tell them to move on when an old lady opens the door, throws something into the candy box, and closes the door.

My oldest daughter walks up to me with a smile on her face. "That was weird," she says. I ask, "What happened?" "She gave US candy," says my daughter, laughing.

I look in the candy box and sure enough, two little ancient looking hard candies are sitting there on top of the chocolate bars.

I told you they were good.

LOL!!! Oh, how delightful a memory! Your girls must really be something!

Speaking about girls, my youngest gave birth today to my third granddaughter (have several grands of the male variety too). It wasn't easy, but I've got pictures, and she's gorgeous! Watch out, MANkind!!!!! §;o)
