An Interview of John Polkinghorne

Posted in Meeting of Minds, Religion on March 31st, 2010 by Bradford

I enjoyed John Polkinghorne's Unseen Realities. Polkinghorne is a distinguished physicist who has more than a passing interest in religion. That plus his thoughtful nature made him a natural for the linked interview. Here's a part of it:

Do science and religion approach reason in different ways? Is the reasoning of faith different from the reasoning of science? Can either help the other to get a more complete understanding of the universe?

Intentionality in Nature

Posted in Meeting of Minds, Random Stuff on January 14th, 2010 by Bradford

At the Farrellmedia website John Farrell published a most interesting piece titled Embodied Physiology. He comments on the views of J. Scott Turner, a professor in the Department of Environmental and Forest Biology at State University of New York, Syracuse. He describes Turner as occupying a middle ground between ID and Darwinism. This on target but amusing question is put forth:

Is there room for talk of intentionality in nature without causing both sides in the ongoing evolution debate to run for the barricades?

Read what follows and render your answer.

This edition of Meeting of Minds is a bit slim, which I attribute to summer vacations. Nonetheless, look beneath the fold to enjoy our tasty little selection.

Posted in Meeting of Minds on August 13th, 2005 by Krauze

Due to vacations, the intelligent design carnival Meeting of Minds has been on hiatus, but is now back in full force. So, if you've written a blog post that takes a positive approach to ID, send a link and a brief description to krauze_id AT hotmail DOT com by Monday the 22nd. And if you'd like to host the next carnival, just let me know.

As with real carnivals, the more the merrier. So help ensure a big turnout by telling others about this, either through e-mails or a link on your blog.

Meeting of Minds #2

Posted in Meeting of Minds on June 21st, 2005 by Krauze

The internet has often been compared to a giant brain, with the individual computers acting as neurons. And just as brain activity is dependent on the thousands of billions of connections between nerve cells, so does the internet rely on one being able to find several juicy links about one's favorite subjects in one place. Neurons have been firing, keyboards have been smoking, and the wires of the internet have been glowing to bring you this collection of blog posts about intelligent design. So, turn your retinal cells in this direction and enjoy the changes of membrane potential as you read these pixels.

Also, keep an eye on The Burning Panda, who will be hosting the next edition.

Next Meeting of Minds Coming Up

Posted in Meeting of Minds on June 11th, 2005 by Krauze

Once again, it's time for our semi-weekly ID carnival, Meeting of Minds. I'll be accepting submissions at krauze_id AT hotmail DOT com until Monday the 20th, so get cracking. Also, I'm going to be pressed for time around the 20th, so please enclose a short summary of your post. I plan on reading each post and writing my own summary, but if I can't do this, I'll just use your summary instead.

Help get the word out. If you have a blog and is interested in ID (of course you are; why else would you be here?), link back to us and encourage others to do the same. And remember that we would very much like our little brain-child to see new places, so if you're interested in hosting the next edition I'm sure we can work something out.

We have plenty of submissions, so stroll along the well-set smorgasbord, pick whatever takes your fancy, and sit down at one of the long-tables to enjoy your morsels. Invite your friends and make sure they invite their friends. No one should leave with an empty mind.

By the way, if you'd like to host the next banquet, just send me a line.

Meeting of Minds: An ID Carnival

Posted in Meeting of Minds on May 19th, 2005 by Krauze

The blogosphere is a big and busy place, and often, original and thought-provoking posts will be met by… utter silence. This is where blog carnivals enter the picture: By gathering links to a lot of high-quality posts in a single place, potential readers can be presented with the crop of the cream. Carnivals are also a way of making connections and discovering new blogs about your favorite topic.

Most carnivals have a theme, and at Telic Thoughts, we're proud to present the first carnival with an ID theme: Meeting of Minds

If you've written a good post, taking a positive approach towards ID, send me a link to it at "krauze_id AT hotmail DOT com", before Monday, the 30th of May (only one post per person, please). Then, I'll gather all the links and post them here at Telic Thoughts. Also, if you're interested in hosting the next Meeting of Minds, let me know.
