I lost. I'd blame it on my lack of wind (my cardio needs alot of improving), but the kid was just too fast. I was only able to land a jab without him countering the hell out of me. Leading with a powershot, the kid just saw it coming from a mile away. So my speed is not what it use to be. I was able to land a few shots to the body (he did what is called the Philly Shell, alot) but couldn't follow anything up. I should have went to the body and then followed up with a left hook to his head, but I got gun shy.
I think my bus left back in 1996…. You wouldn't think it, but it kind of haunts you. You're lying in bed at night and the memories & lost hopes of what you could have/should have done just come flooding back.
Oh well, it was a good run. You learn alot about yourself in a ring. One of the 1st things I learned (that i knew I had to overcome) was that I was a coward and a quitter - try looking at yourself in a mirror when you realize that. You go through life with a particular image of yourself that you hold in your mind - usually decorated with more noble traits - then bam! You get in a situation where you know you can't win. But again, you get to work through it…. if nothing else, you hopefully come out more humble on the other end.
But I'm done with boxing now. Hopefully those restless nights will subside for good. I'll stick with hitting the bags and friendly sparring.
Hitchens and Harris were given space in Newsweek to comment on that? Wow.
You think you'd have someone who understands the value and worth of suffering in a life of religious devotion. This is a topic that is addressed numerous times, it has been an issue in the lives of many saints.
As well as having impacts on those lay people who go through long periods of spiritual dryness.
If anything else, it seems to serve as an argument against the notion of religion being a spiritual band-aid to color everything in life a rosy tint.
That maybe people adhere to it or believe it as a basic principle regardless of the emotional pull one way or another.

In Newsweek, Christopher Hitchens and Sam Harris comment on Mother Teresa's newly-revealed crisis of faith.

Here's a story kind of the reverse of Mother Teresa's trials.
