Listen Up, People.
by MikeGene
Greetings Telic Thoughts people. Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Ms. A. Nellie Tentive. I am Chairperson of Concerned Citizens for Great Science. Our organization has learned some interesting information about Mr. "Gene." After some careful negotiations, Mr. "Gene" has graciously agreed to allow me to speak to you people on this blog.
We at Concerned Citizens for Great Science are greatly troubled by all these mean-spirited attacks on the Iowa State University because of their courageous and heroic stand for Great Science. This unethical behavior must stop. Our research has determined that Guillermo Gonzalez was part of a Reconstructionist agenda and wanted to remake the United States into a Christian Theocracy. This closet member of the American Taliban was propagating pseudoscience and as far as the Concerned Citizens for Great Science are concerned, pseudoscience is intellectual pornography! Those of us who Stand Up for Great Science simply can NOT tolerate any form of pornography in any of its forms, especially the Reconstructionist strain of smut! There is no room for pornography in the Great Halls of Academia. Can you only imagine how Great Scientists would SUFFER if they had to allow a smut-peddler to remain among them?! Thus, in the Name of Great Science, a smut-peddler like Guillermo Gonzalez was appropriately purged from the Halls of Great Science. He should be thankful that he is not in jail!
I would like to warn YOU people that we at Concerned Citizens for Great Science will NOT tolerate subversives and insurgents who threaten the very fabric of our Great Society. We champion TRUTH, and pseudoscientific, pornographic, deceptive, idiotic smut WILL be stamped out in the Name of TRUTH. I would advise the subversives and insurgents on this forum to reconsider their ways before it is too late. We are watching you all and keeping notes. So let this be a warning to you all. Good day.
Science Be Praised,
Ms. A. Nellie Tentive
Chairperson
Concerned Citizens for Great Science
Lover of Great Science
Defender of Truth
Nicely done, Nellie.

I think Nellie should run for president. She has a good grip on domestic terrorism.

Hi Bradford,
I disagree. Nellie wouldn't stand a chance against a challenger like Dr. Wells. Just listen to the kind of stump speech he has for the campaign trail…
"The truth is Darwinism is not a scientific theory, but a materialistic creation myth masquerading as science. It is first and foremost a weapon against religion "“ especially traditional Christianity. Evidence is brought in afterwards, as window dressing.
This is becoming increasingly obvious to the American people, who are not the ignorant backwoods religious dogmatists that Darwinists make them out to be. Darwinists insult the intelligence of American taxpayers and at the same time depend on them for support. This is an inherently unstable situation, and it cannot last.
If I were a Darwinist, I would be afraid. Very afraid."

It's funny because it's true.

Hi TP,
To be a Nellie, you have to have power.

In a press release, Eugenie Scott of the NCSE responds that she is "not amused" by Mike's post.

Hi MikeGene,
Regardless of Gonzalez' high crimes and misdemeanors, I have been told that he said in this article that he didn't have any grants through NASA or the NSF, though I can't confirm that, since I'm way too cheap to pay to read articles in the Chronicle of Higher Education. So IDism may have been a factor in the sense that he is way too famous for his hobby for a guy who wasn't bringing in the dough, but I wouldn't be surprised if no research grant = a swift kick out the door, weird hobby or no.

Aagcobb, criticizing ID has become your weird hobby.

Hi Aagcobb,
Irrelevant. What's relevant is that mulitple critics from academia have gone on record admitting a) tenure decisions are subjective and b) Gonzalez should have been denied tenure. These are new data to use for latter arguments.
