The Threat Intensifies

by MikeGene

The animal rights extremists have now threatened Richard Dawkins' students and colleagues:

The statement, circulated to activists this month, said: "The ALF is calling out to the movement to unite and fight against the university on a maximum impact scale. We must target professors, teachers, heads, students, investors, partners, supporters and anyone that dares to deal in any part of the university."

Last week every builder working on the new laboratory was masked in a balaclava and accompanied by a personal security guard when walking outside the perimeter. The identity of the contractor has not been disclosed.

What's the Professor for the Public Understanding of Science talking about? Take a guess.

Update: More examples of a serious threat to science under the fold.

A director at Britain's biggest pharmaceutical company has had his home defaced by animal rights activists, heightening scientists' fear that an increasingly violent campaign against drugs companies and academia is under way.

Simon Bicknell, the company secretary at GlaxoSmithKline, had the words "Paedo scum drop HLS or go bang!" daubed across his garage.
The graffiti referred to the company's use of Huntingdon Life Sciences, the firm that carries out drug testing on animals.

The Animal Liberation Front (ALF) claimed responsibility, stating on a website that it would return unless Mr Bicknell "quits his sick and amoral job".
"Next time it won't just be wet paint we leave on his doorstep," the statement added.

Animal rights campaigners are concerned the brutal murder of a former Auckland University academic in England could tarnish the reputation of animal rights' groups worldwide.

Barbara Johnston has been found by police strangled and repeatedly stabbed in her flat in Oxford.

Police have arrested a 41-year-old man and believe the death could be the work of animal rights extremists. The former academic was involved in research preventing brain damage in premature babies during a 23 year stay in this country.

In other news, Hamas announces it will begin sending young men to train with ALF, for "strictly humanitarian purposes, and because we love animals".
