Neither religion nor science can expect a free pass in the court of public opinion or in the voting booth.

It is also worth noting that neither science nor religion is a block of uniform viewpoints. Public opinion may support segments within each at the expense of other factions.

the biggest problem that most of the more "intellectual god botherers" have is that the majority of believers are not as sophisticated as you folk. Materialists argue against a moving target that ranges from literal biblical/koranic/etc written book stuff to the "ooh it's not meant to be taken literally" gang.
My take would be all of you who believe in woo come up with a unified point of view and then the discussion can begin. Until religionists get their act unified what the heck are rationalists arguing against. I mean come on is it vishnu, zeus, jehovah, thor, jesus or any one of an infinite number of imaginary kids with their ant farm that is the supreme overlord of all that is present or not? With all the wise-men and prophets you have, you've gotta come up with an answer!
