They are Among Us

Cornell University is celebrating Darwin Day. At least we hope.
Thursday, Feb. 9 — "Where Do We Go From Here? The Future of Darwinism in American Society," at the Museum of the Earth, 10 a.m.-11:30 a.m. This panel discussion, moderated by Cornell Provost Biddy Martin, will examine the impact of the recent Dover decision on the future of Darwinism.
Since only creationists use the term "˜Darwinism', it looks like the Trojan Horse is more insidious that anyone suspected.

Hello Mike, as I'm sure you know, the same word can have different meanings in different contexts. "Darwinist" when used in a sunday morning church sermon, basically means "evil atheistic civilization destroying, hell-bound corrupter of our children". I doubt Cornell is using the term in that sense.

No, it basically means, in that context, "One who denies the Biblical teaching regarding God's Creation, and places their faith in random processes and natural selection rather than in God's direct intervention in the Universe – often unwilling to confront scientific facts, and possessing a rather clouded and biased mind when it comes to discerning scientific implications involving life and its development and origins. Should be prayed for, while being politely opposed."

I think the definition of the term "Darwinist" as used here at TT is obvious: someone who believes that biological evolution occurs solely through the blind processes of natural selection of random mutations.

Aagcobb,
Yes, the same word can have different meanings in different contexts. But the problem is that many critics use words like this to paint the context.
