Arrogance Unleashed

by MikeGene

The "pro-science" blogs are at it again. This time, Kevin Black offers up his best Amanda Marcotte imitation in a angry, arrogant, anti-religious rant entitled, Look up "arrogant," you faith-filled gasbag!

Oh, Lordy! As my grandma would'a said… If Marcotte's going to be the new rhetorical role model for these folks, I'm going to have to invest heavily in antacids and eyewash.

Interesting how much of the "pro-science" blogosphere is really more of a "f*** religion" blogosphere, isn't it. . .

I had to register just to comment on this one. I'm not a psychiatrist, but an article in which an atheist author writes about arrogance? and mentions PZ Myers who was himself discussing other peoples? arrogance strikes me as one of the most pristine examples of externalization Ive ever seen. From what Ive read, PZ is one of the most arrogant guys on the planet - although this Kevin Beck gives him a run for his money. It seems to me a common theme in militant Darwinist/evangelical atheist rants is they commonly assign their own shortcomings to other people, then chastise them for it in a fit of self-righteousness. It's just plain bizarre, and to me resembles the death throws of an injured animal.

Christianity, when practiced as Christ preached, does not allow for arrogance. The founder of Christianity commanded that his followers consider others as more important than themselves and assume a servant role. Turning the other cheek when insulted rather than firing back is also inconsistent with arrogance.

Yeah, I've accused them of projection a few times too. But this is an interesting observation. Something beyond fear - and it does strike a chord. I have heard that beyond fear - and its subsequent panic - comes acceptance. Maybe there's a light at the end of the tunnel (or is that the light we're supposed to NOT go into)?

I believe it's spelled backasswards, Kevin.

I think he's right, though … "jackhole" is a better description than "arrogant."

For example, they are often heard calling Richard Dawkins and Sam Harris "arrogant" (and worse); they mean this to connote both rudeness and misplaced confidence, and they are dead wrong on both counts. Dawkins and Harris are nothing but polite, and they do not make unwarranted claims about the world.

And with two mighty clicks of the finger, I will show that Kevin Rages in the Bubble:

    Click #1
    Click #2

Not just the "pro-science" blogosphere; I've noticed it a lot in the past few months on the geek sites Slashdot and Digg. It's very discouraging to witness the vitriol spouted, and the ignorance (not stupidity) behind that vitriol in almost all of the cases.

(btw, I'm not intentionally on a "respond to MatthewCromer" jag; it's just a coincidence, Matt.)

This is the very type of "enlightenment" that Dawkins and Harris are trying to spread. The larger community of ID critics is gradually be defined by this behavior.
